Jacques is our Chief Financial Officer and brings international experience in finance and accounts to the company. Jacques is responsible for the financial and accounting aspects of the business to ensure robust internal financial management that meets company and statutory requirements. Jacques also assists the company Project Managers and Contract Managers with monthly contract claims to ensure claim information such as labour, plant, materials and subcontractors is recorded accurately.
Ellen has over 8 years’ management experience and is responsible for tender co-ordination and contract administrative requirements including contract negotiation, preparation of contract documents for execution, subcontractor communications, project planning and preparing and issuing construction progress reports. Since joining the company in 2015 Ellen has developed an in-depth knowledge of tendering and pre-contract management. Ellen was instrumental in Paul Smith Earthmoving attaining ISO 9001 accreditation and has direct experience in quality assurance systems including establishment and management of quality functions onsite.
Ray brings 30 years’ experience in delivering construction projects to programme, budget and quality. Since 2012, he has led the Central South Island Regional Office for Paul Smith Earthmoving as Project Director / Manager, adding technical knowledge to his exemplary organisational, people and communication skills. Ray’s reputation for translating complex challenges into achievable goals has placed him in charge of teams of up to 120 multidisciplinary staff and explains his success in project delivery. Critical to projects is Ray’s strong safety culture and ability to identify improvements to safety and constructability. This was demonstrated by his work on the Kaikoura Earthquake Recovery and Christchurch’s SCIRT projects, where he was able to implement safety enhancements and engineer out key risks at the planning stage. This complements Ray’s commitment to Quality Assurance, where he continues to lead the way in ensuring project specifications, inspections and testing requirements are met and documented.
Stacey is our West Coast Manager and has over 20 years’ experience in the civil industry including the past 8 years’ in management and over 10 years’ experience as a surveyor and draftsman. He has been living in Greymouth since 2003 during which time he has gained experience as a Branch Manager in daily operations and business expansion in the contracting industry. Stacey has extensive civil works experience including Project Management for a number of roading, drainage and civil works projects on the West Coast.
As the Branch Manager for Twizel Richard brings over 8+ years’ experience in water infrastructure maintenance, upgrade and repairs; and stormwater/drainage; earthworks; road engineering; surveyance; and contract and project management. A collaborative leader who brings a clear, plain language communication style to his projects, Richard provides his project teams with astute technical advice and direction. He also brings a strong hands-on approach that allows him and the team to deliver every project safely, and to time, quality and budget requirements.
Currently in charge of Paul Smith Earthmoving’s Christchurch office and operations, Ryan has successfully managed and delivered many projects in commercial, residential and roading assets throughout his career. Ryan brings a strong collaborative leadership style that has enabled his high performing team of over 70 staff to deliver successfully on often time-constrained projects. His focus on delivering durable, cost-efficient, quality assets for his clients has earned him a reputation of trust and a cohort of repeat clients. This starts with highly effective organisational skills, managing the day to day running of the office, being hands on in reviewing budgets, motivating the team, overseeing pricing and tendering, as well as H&S implementation across all projects in the region so PSE’s reputation in Christchurch remains exemplary.
Cameron brings 10+ years of extensive civil industry experience to his role as Project Manager. His particular focus has been on commercial and residential builds, earthworks, pavements, drainage, retaining and foundation work. His knowledge of heavy machinery has cultivated a strong focus on Health and Safety for every project he leads, contributing to his reputation and exemplary record for safety. This appreciation was built on his early work as an operator when he joined Paul Smith Earthmoving in 2008. To date, Cameron has managed or delivered over 100 residential projects, requiring careful management of multidisciplinary teams to complete work on time, to budget and quality spec. He also understands what can be achieved in a day, and ensures resourcing matches programme requirements. Further, his knowledge of the supply chain and local subcontractor market allow for more accurate pricing and add certainty to his projects’ deliverables.
Mark is a Senior Project Manager. He began his career at Paul Smith Earthmoving in 2002 as an Operator before being employed predominantly in Australia for 8 years. He has had over 13 years’ experience within the Construction and Mining Industry, the majority of which has been in Supervisory and Management roles of multi-million dollar projects. Mark is very skilled and experienced in large scale civil works construction management across a range of work streams (roading, earthworks, drainage, quality, environmental and safety) including pricing, resourcing and programme execution.
Murray brings 15+ years of construction experience in the civil / construction industry and is one of the leading Project Managers for Paul Smith Earthmoving. He has successfully delivered many major projects throughout the country, working his way up from operating machinery to managing large multidisciplinary teams of up to 50 staff. Murray’s leadership style is collaborative and exemplary, where he leads from the front and expects commitment to safety and quality from everyone on his teams. This, alongside his diligence in completing project packages, explains his track record for success on multi-million dollar projects such as the Macraes Road Alignment (ongoing and involving a 480 tonne concrete bridge), Acton Irrigation (involving 13km of irrigation pipe across multiple stakeholder farms), and Oceania Dairy projects.
Matt is one of Paul Smith Earthmoving’s project managers and is currently based out of the Timaru office. He has been in the building industry since 2002, and brings 15+ years of project management experience. Having developed his technical skills through trade qualifications in Carpentry, and numerous projects successfully delivered throughout his career he has worked his way up through the residential sector, as well as commercial sector in civils and construction projects. Matt’s Technical know-how has enabled him to successfully deliver hundreds of projects throughout his career to date, particularly in residential and construction sectors. This has underpinned his strong capability in managing project risks, client and stakeholder engagement, cost pricing, setting out projects and worksites, managing tight programmes and schedules, controlling project budgets and establishing strong Health and Safety and Quality Assurance cultures within the team.
Joey is a Site Manager and brings 7 years’ experience in the Construction & Civil Industry including 4 years experience as a Site Manager for Paul Smith Earthmoving. Joey is skilled and experienced in civil works projects across a range of work streams including roading, earthworks and drainage. He has been involved in a number of projects in Christchurch including Rangiora Pak N Save, SCIRT roading projects and more recently the Avonside Girls & Shirley Boys High Schools project.
Currently the Administration Manager of head office Tania ensures the office is running smoothly and oversee’s all administrative support staff throughout Paul Smith Earthmoving. Tania has been in her current role for 16 years and has an exemplary record of implementing administration procedures in order to ensure organisational effectiveness and efficiency.
